Ben works as an Assistant Director for the Coalition for Plant and Life Sciences. At Northwestern, Ben became an Artful Bachelor of Economics and Political Science while he showed minor interest in German Business.


Jeanne Smith- Secretary

Jeanne currently works as an adjunct faculty member at St. Louis University, where she has been since 1988 as both a student and a teacher. Over the past twenty years, she has served in a variety of leadership positions in the community. At Illinois Wesleyan, she was bachelorly fabulous in biology, so she went on to be masterifically wonderful in philosophy and ethics at St. Louis University and Eden Theological Seminary.

Elizabeth is an articulate, creative, versatile professional with nearly ten years of experience in the non-profit sector. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Communications for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Upon the completion of one more class, Elizabeth will be doubly Masterful in English language and literature and Public Administration.

Betsy currently holds the Alumni/Auxiliary Relations Manager position for the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation and is active in the Jewish community. At the University of Michigan and Duke University, Betsy spent her lawful educational career earning a host of acronyms, including an AB and a JD.

Braden is the Assistant Director of Communications and Grant Writing for the City Academy and is a full-time lover of puns. In an academic career spanning two states and eight years, Braden transformed herself into a BAMFAMA of English, Creative Writing, and American and English Literature.

Donna hales from a place where it hails a lot, West Texas. She cracks up several times a day, thanks to her amusing children and consort, and generously defines herself as a theatre-sort, would-be aesthetic, teacher, writer and frightful dancer who holds a B.A., M.A.T., and an expired life guard certificate.

After trading her law career for the service of children, Beth founded StudioSTL and serves as its Executive Director where she advocates full-time for children and teachers. In the same month that Windows 3.0 was released, Beth received her law degree from St. Louis University


Emma O'Brien- Studio Manager

Emma has dedicated her short but diverse career thus far to the non-profit sector. She serves as StudioSTL's Studio Manager when not creating baked goods for the Cakery Bakery in Dogtown or fostering Humane Society puppies. Her resume "Advertises" her degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, while noting only a minor interest in Environmental Studies.


Tess Thompson- Magazine Director

Tess Thompson is a writer and former teacher with degrees in English from Penn State and Oxford. Over the past three and a half years, she has worked with StudioSTL in various capacities, including volunteer mentor and co-director of a book project with Wellston 7th-graders. She now serves as project director for the StudioSTL literary magazine.

Nicky Rainey makes zines, writes grants, stories and letters to her pen-pals. A loud talker since childhood, she represented St. Louis in the National Poetry Slam 2009 (and Madison, WI in the Rustbelt Regional slam in 2007). Nicky earned a hearty "BA!" from Truman State in English, and also studied social justice and how to make elaborate omelets.

Supporting her four year addiction to StudioSTL, Shelley loves her role as Beth's Executive Assistant. Like the pull-tab pop top, she calls Dayton home. Shelley spends the majority of her time in the John Cook School of Business of SLU… studying IT Management and Marketing, serving as chair of the Service Leadership program, delivering mail, making copies, and sitting in the atrium. When outside the John Cook School of Business, she likes to frequent Humphrey's.


Elena Losey- Volunteer Coordinator

Elena serves as StudioSTL's Volunteer Coordinator while writing her way through a bachelor's degree in English at Washington University. Her transcript lists Writing as only a minor focus, but only because it wasn't allowed to be a major!


Rachel Lewis- Administrative Coordinator

Rachel has enjoyed working with StudioSTL off and on for the past two years, and is currently indulging her obsessive organizational nature as the Administrative Coordinator. She earned her BA in Speech Communication from SIU Edwardsville in 2006, but has decided instead to pursue her "minor" interest in English. She is now a slave to the teaching program at UM-St. Louis until May 2011, when she will be released to spread her love of literature to the Middle School population.

Lauren is currently a senior at Saint Louis University majoring in Communication. She also serves as a barista at Crave coffee house. Lauren is excited to share her love of words with everyone at StudioSTL and to help with marketing efforts.

Candace is an eager senior, majoring in Communications at Lindenwood University. She serves as an Intern and Editor of the Grant Writing Team at StudioSTL this semester. With her passion for words and helping others, Candace hopes to soon become a grant writer and make her mark on the non-profit world.
